The Citizens’ Police Academy is an expansion to our community based efforts. The members of the Williston Police Department know that education is one of the most effective ways to gain understanding and support. This is a continuing program that is designed to open the communication lines between the citizens of our community and law enforcement. By allowing citizens a firsthand look into the rules, regulations and policies that police follow, some of the misunderstandings can be eliminated. The program objective is to produce well informed citizens.
The Citizens’ Police Academy will expose citizens to many of the challenges that face our officers. Instruction and demonstrations will include the following areas:
- Domestic Violence
- Defensive Tactics/ Use of Force
- Narcotic Investigation
- Traffic Stops/ DUI Investigation
- Sex Crimes/ Sex Offenders
- Firearms Training
- Crime Scene Processing
- Search & Seizure/ K-9 Handling
- Internet Crimes
- SWAT/ NW Crisis Negotiations Team
Classes are held on Tuesday nights from 7-9pm, for 10 weeks, and are held in the spring of each year. The Williston Police Department will incur all costs. Class size is limited to 20 students. For more information contact Sergeant Kristiina Ravaska at firstname.lastname@example.org or 701.577.1212.
